Speaking about the Arctic Monkeys' win, Editor-in-Chief Phil Alexander said: ''Mojo has always been proud to champion the Arctic Monkeys. They've been on the cover twice in two years. There is something about them that is incredibly special.''

"I think it's because they fit in a long line of truly great British artists.''

The Beatles' Ringo Starr received Mojo's Icon Award, while Beach Boys' Brian Wilson was presented with Mojo's Honour award.

Whilst accepting his award, Wilson told the audience: ''God only knows what I’d be without you.''
